The interview with Jorge Malheiros, I belong to the group of people who think there should be public intervention in private housing conducted by Sílvia Viegas (CIAC/UAlg) and Sílvia Jorge (CiTUA-IST) is part of the 45th edition of the journal Cities, Communities and Territories, published under the theme Access to housing and Covid-19: readings from the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto, co-edited by these researchers.
In this interview, Jorge Malheiros crosses issues concerning adequate housing in Portugal and migrations, taking into account the amplifying and analytical lens introduced by Covid-19. The interview is structured around four main axes: (1) the structural problems of the construction of citizenship and its impact on everyday life, focusing on migrants and refugees, in Portugal; (2) the public responses given in democracy to these problems; (3) the flaws evidenced by the Covid-19 pandemic and old/new intervention priorities; and (4) future challenges.”
