Participation in the online training Writing a Successful ERC Grant Proposal – Call 2023, conducted by Dr. Mette Skraastad from Yellow Research and organised by ICArEHB (UAlg) on June 13, 2022 (6 hours), organised as follows:
Part I: ERC in a nutshell .The European Research Council in a nutshell: what makes ERC different than a national research council.
Part II: What are ERC panels looking for? Excellence is the sole selection criterion. We will discuss what defines excellent proposed research in the context of ERC and how to balance high risk and high gain. We will discuss the different terms used by the ERC to clarify what kind of research is being funded. Addressing the writing instructions for the State-of-the-Art and Objectives of the B2 part.
Part III: Selecting the right ERC keywords.The panel decides to whom the grant is awarded. We will discuss the role of the panel and how to select the most appropriate ERC keywords for your proposal.
Part IV: How to present Methodology + Appropriateness? The ERC panels are assessing the appropriateness of the methodologies for achieving the goals. Hereto they assess whether the proposed research and methodologies are feasible based on the information you provide on objectives, strategy and key intermediate stages and goals. We will discuss matureness of the proposed research in the context of the proposed research and different disciplines. Addressing the writing instructions for the methodology of the B2 part.
Part V: How to design an implementation plan? We will discuss how to structure the B2 part and add a logical work and implementation plan in view of the high risk and high gain balance. We will also discuss how to put together a good team including expertise and design working arrangements. Addressing the writing instructions for feasibility and working arrangements of the B2 part.
Part VI: How to write the B1 part? Based on the B1 part the selected ERC panel will decide whether your proposal will progress to step 2. We will discuss the cover page summary and Extended Synopsis of the B1 part presenting the proposed proposal and what information could or should be presented in each section and why. Taking into account the type of research proposed.
Part VII: How to write the PI parts? We will discuss what panels are looking for in the PI parts and how to present your CV and early achievement track record taking into account your research field and career stage.
